Ralph Lauren Claims Menswear Crown Again at the 2026 CFDA Awards

Some names don't chase relevance. They define it. At the 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards, Ralph Lauren added another chapter to a career built on that principle, taking home the title of American Menswear Designer of the Year.

The ceremony took place on Monday night at the American Museum of Natural History, where actor Matt Damon presented Lauren with the honor. It is the third time the designer has won the organization's top menswear prize, following earlier victories in 1996 and 2007.

The competition was no small field. Lauren came out ahead of Thom Browne, Todd Snyder, Willy Chavarria, and the duo of Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of Public School New York, a lineup that reflects the range of voices shaping American menswear today.

The win also arrives on the heels of another milestone. Last year, Lauren was named American Womenswear Designer of the Year for the second time, after first earning that title in 1995. Together, the two recent wins underline his influence across both menswear and womenswear.

It also adds to a singular record: Ralph Lauren is the only designer in history to have received all of the CFDA's top honors. His list of recognitions includes Lifetime Achievement, Menswear Designer of the Year, Womenswear Designer of the Year and Retailer of the Year, along with tributes for Humanitarian Leadership and American Fashion Legend, as well as the organization's inaugural Popular Vote.

In a year full of new names and fast-moving trends, this victory is a reminder of what lasting impact looks like in American fashion.
