McQueen has officially parted ways with Creative Director Seán McGirr after a three-year tenure at the helm of the British fashion house. According to WWD, the announcement from parent company Kering arrives amid extensive structural reorganization, including company layoffs and a downsizing of the brand's global retail network.
The leadership shift follows the appointment of former Prada executive Gianfranco D’Attis as Alexander McQueen's CEO earlier this year. Under Kering CEO Luca de Meo, the luxury group is seeking a comprehensive reset after the house sustained heavy losses driven by an aggressive expansion to 135 stores and an overreliance on footwear, with sneaker sales previously accounting for up to 80 percent of total revenue. De Meo emphasized a goal to establish"“a bold new direction for the house, building on its unique heritage of exceptional tailoring, uncompromising creativity and rebellion."
McGirr, who took over following Sarah Burton’s departure, joined the label after leading menswear at JW Anderson, with prior design experience at Dries Van Noten, Burberry, and Christophe Lemaire for Uniqlo. During his time at McQueen, the Dublin-born designer sought to reconnect the label with London’s street culture, recently reuniting the house with longtime jeweler Shaun Leane for the Spring 2027 runway. McGirr's exit marks the latest shift in Kering's design roster, following the departure of Anthony Vaccarello from Saint Laurent after a 10-year run.
