Tomoo Gokita is bringing more than 100 imaginary record sleeves to agnès b. galerie boutique in Tokyo. Opening September 12, GOKITA RECORDS turns the album-cover format into a space for the artist’s drawings, humor and love of subculture.
The exhibition builds on Gokita Records, a series made between 2002 and 2018 and shown at his 2018 PEEKABOO exhibition at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. While Gokita has designed covers for musicians including Towa Tei, YMO and METAFIVE, these fictional sleeves are free from the need to represent an actual recording. The new works continue that approach, moving between illustration and painting.
Alongside the exhibition, agnès b. will release venue-exclusive, hand-screen-printed T-shirts featuring newly drawn artwork. The tees come in black and white, in sizes M through XXL, priced at ¥8,800 JPY including tax. Sales begin at the gallery boutique on September 11 at 7 p.m. JST.
GOKITA RECORDS runs from September 12 through November 8, 2026. The gallery is open from noon to 7 p.m. and closes on Mondays, except September 21 and October 12.
